a typical march in colorado, warm days earlier this week and lots of chilliness and rain turned to snow today. we visited the library for story hour…which of course we walked to so we got pretty drenched getting home afterwards. outside of that, we had a pretty typical day playing and pretending and laughing the day away.
i felt very fortunate to have a bit of time on my own last week. i visited scottsdale, arizona, for a conference and actually traveled all by myself! this was the first trip that i have ever taken all alone. i've always traveled with family or luc or a colleague. besides attending the conference, i had time to explore, relax by the pool, eat yummy food and meet up with some new friends i have met through instagram.
the first day, i honestly wasn't quite sure what to do with myself. i felt a bit guilty for traveling without luc or channing and i just couldn't figure out what to do. i ended up taking a very very long walk to downtown scottsdale to check in at my conference and do a little shopping, once i was done. the trip had a bit of a theme and that was guacamole. i literally ate some every day, at different restaurants, and enjoyed every bite of it. it was all delicious!
my favorite part of the trip was meeting up with the loveliest ladies i had, up until this point, only chatted with via instagram. i made some wonderful friends on this trip and feel so lucky to have been able to spend time with them!
i am happy to be home but, last week was such a great time for me to enjoy and relax and rejuvenate a bit!
here's a little gallery of the trip...
it was another cold, snowy day here in colorado. we are going a little stir crazy around here…we'd love to get outside but the temperatures are barely over zero! we've been playing hard indoors though...dressing up, jumping on the mini trampoline, building block tours and of course…reading lots of books.
i have really been missing my "a day in photos" segment and hope to bring it back on fridays. i love looking back and seeing what was happening throughout the day. today it was cold and very snowy…with great big snowflakes falling all day long. we are right in the middle of potty training (for the 3rd try) and finally having amazing success! perseverence has been the answer. here's a peak into what our friday looked like...
on this day, 6 years ago, we were married on a beautiful little beach in maui. it was an absolutely magical experience. we planned the entire thing from colorado (having never been to maui), invited a small handful of family and friends and had a traditional hawaiian ceremony on a beach in makena. it was so easy to plan the entire thing...we used kelly with a perfect paradise wedding. she would send me websites and i would make selections (for the flowers, for the music, for the photographer). so easy. the really fun thing was, i had no idea how it was all going to come together and i could not have even imagined it would be as beautiful as it turned out!!
that day was filled with an amazing sunrise, yoga on the patio, makeup, hair, pineapple eating and lot of laughing while getting ready for our afternoon ceremony. i slept at the condo my parents were staying at and didn't see luc until the ceremony. the day before, my mom and i had traditional hawaiian henna drawn on our arms, which was one of my very favorite things we have ever done together!
our ceremony began with the blowing of the conch shell and an ancient hawaiian processional, a guitarist playing and hawaiian dancers on the beach. i walked down a long stone path and set of stairs to see luc standing there on the beach in a ring of tropical flowers...it was truly magical.
the ceremony itself was of hawaiian traditional, complete with the exchanging of floral leis and hawaiian drumming and hula before our vows. i could not have asked for a more amazing experience.
afterwards, we all went to a luau for dinner...another fabulous experience! i will treasure this day forever and could honestly relive it over and over again. !!
i have been lax at getting blog posts up this week. i finally finished up all of my custom dream catcher orders (from a magnificently successful sale last week) and finished up my last week of school for the semester. i am looking forward to 13 whole weeks with the bird and lots of upcoming summer adventures (more on that later). since i haven't posted all week i thought i would share a few photos i've snapped in between everything else. so, today is a week in photos!
we are having the most gorgeous friday. the weather is perfect and we have spent the entire day outside. we had a lovely morning stroll to the market then played outside all morning in our pjs and baseball cap.
we were especially lucky to have my mom (nanna) in town and beautiful weather to play outside pretty much the entire day this friday. channing is especially excited about her new baseball cap and the sweet tarts she received in this week's happy mail. we are looking forward to the easter weekend ahead and hunting eggs!
another friday is almost over...time for the weekend. and, my spring break! looking forward to having a week off with the bird and my mom, who is coming to visit. today was fun filled but also chilly and progressively more chilly. looks like a gloomy weekend ahead of us. we started off the day meeting friends at the zoo. we froze our feathers off but were happy to see the elephant exhibit (which has been under construction for the past year) for the very first time as well as the giraffes. the rest of the day was spent literally either playing the guitar, paint and coloring or bouncing on the bed. pizza for dinner, baby to bed and time for mama and daddy to veg out on the sofa! happy weekend!!
i haven't had much time to post this week...it's been a little hectic for some reason. and even this "day in photos" post is actually a combination of yesterday and today's events. we've had a busy couple of days. yesterday (friday) we had a fun playdate in the morning, another after naptime and then we drove about 30 minutes across town (in rush hour) to pick up channing's new surprise...an outdoor playhouse. we bought it on craigslist and it was in perfect condition. the previous owners used it in their basement so it literally was like brand new. luckily, they hadn't actually ever screwed it together so, we got the house apart and somehow managed to load it in the back of my volvo. i had to drive slowly back across town, since my car hatch was open and held partially closed by a bungee. but, we managed to get it home and put together and channing played in it until about 5 minutes before bedtime. she ate dinner there. she was in heaven.
we decided to take advantage of her busy day (and the fact that she was worn out) and move forward with transitioning her crib into a toddler bed. the front panel of the bed comes off and a shorter panel of rails goes on. channing wanted to help so, we grabbed her toy toolbox and let her pretend to saw off the rails. she was extremely excited and hopped right in. she slept there, with no problem, from 7:30pm-7:00am. she also napped today like a champ! i am sooooo relieved. she seems very proud of her new big girl bed.
as soon as she woke up this morning, she asked to read in bed (which was so lovely!) and then wanted to head out to play in the new playhouse. we were literally outside all day long except for naptime.
as an extra little treat, we went to fargo's pizza tonight. it's a quirky little pizza spot here in colorado springs. they have a player piano, girls dressed up in old time saloon costumes and little arcade with a photo booth (my favorite). it has been a busy but wonderful past couple of days!
we've been taking full advantage of the lovely weather...snow is on its way again for the weekend. an early morning trip to the zoo and lots of playing outside in the sandbox were the perfect way to spend our friday and enjoy the sunshine.
so...we are trying to potty train. which means we are sitting in the bathroom, doing a lot of waiting. this being said, i didn't get many photos today. but, outside of spending a lot of time in the bathroom, we had a good day of snuggling, watching movies and eating popcorn. it was snowy and cold outside, which made for a perfect day to relax inside.
