a freshly picked spring

i am honored to team up with freshly picked to help show off one of their fantastic spring colors…coral.  if you haven't heard of freshly picked, and you have kiddos or know someone who has kiddos or just want to be completely inspired by an amazing woman in business…then you need to check out freshly picked and the creator, susan's, story.  it is a pretty amazing and inspiring one.

this is our first pair of the popular moccasins and let me tell you, channing and i are both in love.  she never wants to take them off and i love how they look and fit and feel on her sweet little feet.  they are amazing quality and such fun colors.  from what everyone tells me and the reviews i read…they last forever and are really great for little feet.  they are the only shoes i want to get her from now on!

our theme for this photo shoot?  well, it was inspired by channing's new favorite book - flora and the flamingo.  we got it a couple of days ago and it is all channing wants to look through, over and over and over.  and so, a flamingo themed photo shoot it was.  maybe a little quirky but, that pretty much sums things up over anyway.  we had a lot of fun.

also…keep your eyes open for a big giveaway i am having at the end of march, which will include freshly picked moccs and one of my maven mercantile dream catchers

a day in photos

a typical march in colorado, warm days earlier this week and lots of chilliness and rain turned to snow today.  we visited the library for story hour…which of course we walked to so we got pretty drenched getting home afterwards.  outside of that, we had a pretty typical day playing and pretending and laughing the day away.

breakfast fit for a princess.  she is very into "puffins" cereal with milk lately.

three years old

how in the world is it possible that my little bird is already three?!?  it is hard to sum her up in words, she is quite a character.  but…here's my best try:

channing is quirky, funny, adventurous, kind hearted, polite, spunky and so much fun to be around.

some of her favorite things are wizard of oz, dressing up (especially in princess dresses), reading books, painting, singing songs, dancing, digging in the dirt and sand.

she is so kind and always checking in to see how we are doing.  while we are working on projects, from crafts to folding laundry, she will ask "how are you doing on that?".  "are you doing ok?"

we finally have success in potty training!  we've had very few, little accidents and it has officially been a month since we first had success.

she kisses me on the shoulder with i am snuggling with her or carrying her around.

she calls me mama, which i love.

her memory is crazy good and i am often completely blown away at the things she remembers.

anytime she makes a mistake or sings the words to a song incorrectly or recites the words from a book wrong, she says "oops, sorry.  silly me".  or if anyone else makes a mistake she laughs and says "silly mommy" or "silly daddy" or whoever it is that has messed up.

she laughs and smiles all day long.  she is so much fun to be around.

she currently sleeps from about 8:30pm-7:15am and takes good naps (thank goodness!) from about 12:30-2:30 or 3.

max and ruby is still her favorite cartoon and always her first choice when she asks to watch a show.  disney movies have become very popular, especially ones with princesses involved.

bunny or "bun" is still her best friend and goes everywhere.  she loves on her and kisses on her and says "i am being such a good mommy to bun".

we still swim every tuesday night and she has improved so much!  she still wears floaties but has perfected her doggy paddle and is being very brave swimming a few feet at a time without her floaties on.

she sings songs and makes up her own words (that surprisingly make sense!) to the tune of songs she knows.

we love her more than words can even say and are always looking at each other and saying how lucky we are to have her in our lives.  happy three sweet bird!!

my funny valentine

channing was pretty happy with how her valentine's day turned out.  she received some sweet gifts…including heart shaped balloons, stickers, a princess pillow case (from nanna) and this cute little fox gid-up that i got her from opposite of far… the cutest little felt mask shop.  she also got to go to the ymca with me in the morning, where she took a little dance class for kiddos while i got in a work out.  she had a post-nap date with papa gray and gg (my in-laws) where she ate cake and drank tea.  and then had fondue dinner with daddy and i.  not a bad day at all!

off to see the wizard

back in the summer, luc was home with channing one evening and when i got home…i was very surprised to see them watching the wizard of oz.  i hadn't thought to let channing watch it yet because i was afraid it would be too scary.  but, she loved it.  and has been in love with it every since.  she calls herself dorothy, luc the tin man, our dog the lion, our nanny the witch, nanna (my mom) glinda…and so on.  she dresses up all the time and wants to read every book associated with the movie and wants to watch the movie all the time.

so, i was over the moon when i heard that our local fine arts center was putting the play on during the holiday season.  we got tickets for channing's 12th day of her advent calendar.  i also might have gone a little overboard and bought her ruby red slippers (from target) and a dorothy costume (from zeezos, our local costume shop).  she looked SO CUTE!!  and had the most amazing time at the play.  everyone complimented her on her outfit and i think she felt oh so special.  she even had her photo taken with the little dog playing toto, during intermission.

it was such a great night!!

happy november

i truly cannot believe that we are already half way through november.  we've been having some beautiful weather and channing is happy to be outside playing in the leaves and dirt and sticks.  throwing and dancing in the leaves seems to be her favorite!

we also have some squirrels around here who are crazy for pumpkins.  so crazy, in fact, that they have eaten through my fake pumpkins in an attempt to get a tasty bite.  the whole reason i use fake pumpkins is due to the 1 day demolishment of last year's pumpkins.  i literally put out pumpkins in the morning and by the afternoon, they were eaten completely.  i thought fake ones would work out but apparently…hungry squirrels don't equal smart squirrels.

i was also surprised to see how much the snap dragons love this cooler weather!  this is the first year i have planted them and was disappointed when they didn't do well over the summer.  they have been thriving through october and now as well!

halloween hippo

channing decided months ago that she wanted to be a hippo for halloween.  "wicket" the hippo is her favorite at the zoo and then...she watched fantasia's dancing hippopotamus on utube and was hooked on the idea.  i ordered the hippo mask and tail from opposite of far, on etsy.  they worked perfectly with our lavender tutu.  she had the best time dressing up.  we met up with our friend rachel and her kiddos and walked over to old colorado city, where they stores hand out candy.  the weather was great, except for the chilly wind that picked up just as we were heading back.

this was the first year that channing really got the concept of saying "trick-or-treat" and please and thank you each time she was handed a piece of candy.  by the time we got home, it was just too cold out to do any door to door trick-or-treating so instead, we snuggled up and watched the great pumpkin charlie brown.  her favorite thing now is to dump out her pumpkin and play with the candy.  she isn't overly concerned about eating it, she just likes looking at the packages and the colors and asking us the names of each one and what kind we like.

i love this little hippo to pieces!

sunshine and pop-up tents

the weather here in colorado springs has been absolutely gorgeous lately.  once that first day of fall arrived...it seems mother nature was right on top of things.  the weather instantly became autumnal- with chilly mornings, a crispness in the air, falling leaves and perfectly sunny, fresh afternoons.  channing decided it was perfect weather for putting up her "pop up tent", as she likes to call it.  we've been playing, relaxing, reading and having lots of snacks in it all week long.

always good at sharing her snacks

balloon classic

per tradition, we got up bright and early to go check out the colorado balloon festival. it's one of my favorite events that occurs here in colorado springs and always during the labor day weekend.  there is the balloon take off in the mornings and the balloon glow in the evenings (which is stunningly beautiful as well but happens kind of late for us since we have a earlier bedtime for C).  this was the 37th year for the festival, 12th year for me and 3rd year for channing.  she has loved it every time.
